Conservative Leaders Clash at Turning Point USA Conference Over MAGA’s Future
Phoenix (AP) — Tensions within the conservative movement surfaced publicly on Thursday as influential figures openly criticized one another at Turning Point USA’s annual youth conference, highlighting deep divisions over the future direction of President Donald Trump’s political movement.
The disagreement unfolded on one of the most prominent platforms in conservative politics. As a result, internal conflict overshadowed broader efforts to promote unity within the movement.
Internal Disputes Take Center Stage
Throughout the event, leading conservative voices attacked rival factions and questioned each other’s credibility. These clashes revealed competing visions for the MAGA movement and raised concerns about its long-term cohesion.
At the same time, the disputes threatened to overshadow attempts to honor Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who was assassinated in September. Despite the heated exchanges, several speakers maintained that they were continuing the legacy of a figure widely regarded as a unifying force within the Republican Party.
Ben Shapiro Criticizes Conservative Media Figures
Ben Shapiro, a prominent conservative commentator, delivered some of the sharpest criticism. He accused Tucker Carlson and others of misleading their audiences, describing them as grifters who promote false narratives and conspiracy theories.
In particular, Shapiro condemned Carlson, the former Fox News host, for hosting Nick Fuentes, a known antisemite, on his podcast. Shapiro labeled the decision “an act of moral imbecility,” arguing that it damaged the credibility of the conservative movement.
Growing Rift Within the MAGA Movement
These confrontations highlighted a growing divide among conservative leaders. While some seek to broaden the movement’s appeal, others continue to embrace more confrontational rhetoric and controversial figures.
As the conference continued, the sharp exchanges made clear that the battle over MAGA’s identity remains unresolved and increasingly public.
