Saudi Arabia Denounces Deadly Damascus Bombing

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the deadly bombing in Damascus that claimed the life of a Syrian soldier and injured multiple others earlier this week.

In an official statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the kingdom’s unwavering rejection of violence and acts targeting security and stability. Riyadh also expressed condolences and solidarity with Syria while wishing a swift recovery to those wounded in the attack.

According to Syrian state media, the explosion occurred near the Defense Ministry complex in the Bab Sharqi district of Damascus. Authorities said military personnel had discovered an explosive device prepared for detonation close to one of the ministry’s facilities.

Security forces reportedly attempted to secure and dismantle the device before a car bomb exploded in the area, killing one soldier and injuring several others. Emergency officials later confirmed that at least 12 people sustained injuries during the blast.

No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes during a sensitive period for Syria’s political and security landscape.

The incident follows ongoing efforts by Syria’s transitional administration to restore order nationwide after the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in late 2024. Assad fled to Russia after more than two decades in power, ending the long rule of the Baath Party that had governed Syria since 1963.

The country is currently led by transitional President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, whose administration has focused heavily on strengthening internal security amid fears of continued instability and militant violence.
