On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, Israel’s Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant visited troops involved in a large-scale IDF exercise simulating ground combat in Lebanese territory. The exercise, conducted by Brigade 7 of the Armored Corps and Battalion 202 of the Paratroopers Brigade, aimed to enhance readiness in the northern arena, a region that faces continued threats from Hezbollah. Gallant was briefed by senior commanders on the evolving situation and the valuable lessons learned from recent fighting in Gaza.
During his address to the troops, Minister Gallant emphasized the transformation Hezbollah has undergone due to recent IDF strikes. “Hezbollah today is different from the organization we knew a week ago,” he said, acknowledging the blows that have been dealt to its command and control structure, fighters, and weaponry. He warned that Hezbollah, while weakened, still poses a serious threat that must be taken seriously, but expressed confidence in the IDF’s preparedness and combat experience.
Gallant also reassured the soldiers that more strikes are planned if necessary, and any Hezbollah force encountered will be “destroyed.” He noted the differences between Hezbollah and Hamas, particularly in terms of terrain and tactics, but reiterated his trust in the IDF’s ability to handle any threat that arises.
Praising the troops’ combat readiness, Gallant stated, “You are the most well-trained forces that the IDF has ever had.” He concluded by stressing the importance of achieving the IDF’s strategic goals and ensuring the safe return of Israel’s northern residents to their homes, signaling the government’s commitment to restoring calm in the region.–News Desk
