Eiffel Tower Evacuated After Christmas Eve Blaze

On Christmas Eve, the Eiffel Tower was evacuated following a fire that broke out between its first and second floors. Around 1,200 visitors were swiftly escorted to safety as firefighters worked to douse the flames.

Local reports indicate that the fire began in the elevator shaft, with early speculations suggesting that an overheating device near the elevator cables could have sparked the blaze. French emergency crews were quick to respond, ensuring the safety of those on site.

The Eiffel Tower, a global icon and one of Paris’s top tourist draws, typically sees between 15,000 and 25,000 visitors a day. This fire, however, is not the first incident involving flames at the tower—back in 1956, a fire in the television transmission room caused major damage.

As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, updates on the incident’s details and impact are expected. This remains an unfolding story.
