At the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated in a crucial session focusing on “Sustainable Development and Energy Transition.” The meeting, held in the Museum of Modern Art, began shortly after Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s opening address. This year’s summit was significant for Brazil, as it marked the first time the country assumed the presidency of the G20, an influential economic bloc consisting of the world’s 20 largest economies.
The G20, representing 85% of global GDP, over 75% of world trade, and about two-thirds of the global population, plays a critical role in addressing pressing global issues. During the summit, leaders discussed sustainable development strategies and the critical transition to clean energy, two of the most pressing challenges for nations worldwide. These discussions highlighted the need for collective action to address climate change, promote environmental responsibility, and ensure sustainable economic growth.
For Turkey, participation in the G20 provided an important platform to engage with other major economies on these issues. The session underscored the interconnectedness of global economies and the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle the challenges of climate change, energy security, and sustainable development. As Turkey continues to focus on advancing its energy transition, Erdogan’s involvement in these discussions reflects the country’s commitment to contributing to global solutions in this vital area.
With Brazil’s leadership and the focus on key global issues, the G20 summit aimed to pave the way for more sustainable economic practices and energy solutions, fostering cooperation among the world’s largest economies.
