Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the importance of Türkiye’s complete integration into EU defense initiatives for ensuring peace and security in Europe. Speaking at the fifth European Political Community (EPC) summit in Budapest, Hungary, Erdogan argued there is “no reasonable justification” for stalling Türkiye’s EU membership process, given the country’s longstanding role in supporting Europe’s prosperity and security.
Erdogan expressed concern over the ongoing Ukraine conflict, stating that its extended duration further limits diplomatic efforts. He noted that he had recently shared messages aimed at fostering diplomacy during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
European leaders at the EPC summit, hosted by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, are addressing a range of global issues, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, irregular migration, and economic security in Europe. The EPC was established in 2022 to promote cooperation on these pressing concerns.
