In November, the European passenger car market contracted by 1.9% year-on-year, reversing the previous month’s growth, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA). New car registrations across the EU reached 869,816 units. France led the downturn with a significant 12.7% drop, while Italy followed with a 10.8% decline. Germany saw a minimal decrease of 0.5%, and Spain was the sole major market to show growth, with a 6.4% increase.
The electric vehicle market also saw a setback, with battery-electric car market share dipping to 15% from last year’s 16.3%, while sales volumes fell by 9.5%. Despite this, the overall car market in the EU showed a slight uptick of 0.4% for the year, with a total of 8.7 million cars registered from January to November.
Notably, Spain’s car market grew by 5.1% over the first 11 months of 2024, while France, Germany, and Italy recorded minor declines of 3.7%, 0.4%, and 0.2%, respectively.
