Former Pakistan cricketer Sikandar Bakht criticized the team’s performance in the ongoing ODI series against Australia, pointing out both senior and younger players’ poor form. In an interview, Bakht called young batsmen Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub “burdens” on the squad, igniting debate about team selection. He also questioned the leadership of senior players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, saying they failed to anchor the team during tough moments. Bakht further criticized the decision to drop Fakhar Zaman, whom he regarded as Pakistan’s only real match-winner in ODIs.
While acknowledging Naseem Shah’s resilience, he praised the young fast bowler for his brave performance in the first ODI, where Pakistan posted just 203 runs. Rizwan top-scored with 44, and Naseem contributed 40, but Australia chased down the target in 33.3 overs, winning by two wickets. Despite solid bowling from Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s fielding and discipline were questioned, especially after conceding 21 runs in extras, including 17 wides. With Australia leading the series 1-0, Pakistan aims to recover in the second ODI on November 8 in Adelaide.
