Qatar Intercepts Missile Attack Amid Regional Escalation
ISTANBUL
Qatar reported on Tuesday evening that its armed forces successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting the country.
Explosions Over Doha
The Qatar Defense Ministry did not provide additional details, but local media including Al Jazeera reported that explosions were heard in the skies over Doha as interception operations took place.
Earlier, the ministry confirmed that Qatari air defenses shot down five ballistic missiles launched from Iran.
Context of Regional Tensions
The escalation follows a joint United States and Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28, which killed over 1,200 people and injured roughly 10,000.
In retaliation, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military assets.
