French Army Chief Warns of Possible Clash with Russia Before 2030
Mandon Calls for Military and National Preparedness
ISTANBUL — France’s Chief of the Defense Staff, Fabien Mandon, has again warned that the country must prepare for a potential conflict with Russia before 2030.
In an interview with Ouest-France on Tuesday, Mandon said Russia is reorganizing its military forces. Therefore, France must stay ready for any future confrontation.
“I know that Russia is rebuilding its military power to fight NATO countries. We must prepare for this,” he said.
Previous Warnings and Allied Concerns
Mandon’s latest remarks follow his October address to the Defence Committee. At that time, he cautioned that France must be ready for a clash within three to four years.
He explained that the confrontation could begin as hybrid warfare or escalate into a more violent conflict. According to intelligence reports and military indicators, the threat is growing.
Furthermore, he added that this assessment is shared by France’s key allies, including Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Training Exercises and Strategic Readiness
The army chief said the French armed forces regularly conduct large-scale training exercises to improve combat readiness. Additionally, he announced the upcoming Orion 2026 military exercise, which will involve French forces, allied nations, and civilian institutions.
“This type of conflict demands more than just the military,” Mandon explained. It requires an entire nation standing together. He added, “Russia knows our greatest strength is unity. If it divides us, it can win.”
Mandon Stresses National Unity
Mandon emphasized that moral preparation is as important as military strength. He urged citizens to take an active role in national defense.
Moreover, he stressed that unity, discipline, and awareness are essential to protect the country. “Moral rearmament is just as vital as military rearmament,” he said.
