Gary, Indiana Begins Recovery After EF1 Tornado Causes Severe Damage
Gary, IN – The City of Gary is in recovery after an EF1 tornado struck on March 19 at approximately 5:45 PM, bringing powerful winds, flooding, and widespread destruction. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado, which affected neighborhoods from Emerson to Tolleston.
The most severe damage occurred along the 21st Avenue corridor between Whitcomb and Hendricks, where multiple homes sustained heavy damage. Emergency teams responded quickly, working to clear debris and assist residents.
Impact of the Tornado:

Fortunately, no fatalities or severe injuries were reported. One person was briefly trapped but was safely rescued and taken to a hospital.
