Khamenei Death Report Sparks Iran Leadership Transition Events

Tehran Mashhad Qom Host State Funeral Khamenei Process

Iran is preparing a series of national funeral ceremonies for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, scheduled to take place between July 4 and July 9, according to Iranian state media reports.

The farewell events are set to begin in Tehran with a memorial ceremony on July 4–5. Additional funeral gatherings will follow in Tehran on July 6 and in the holy city of Qom on July 7, reflecting multiple stages of national mourning.

Khamenei is expected to be buried on July 9 at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad, one of Iran’s most significant religious sites, following final arrangements outlined in the official program.

State media reports state that the Supreme Leader was killed during US-Israeli strikes that began on February 28, which also resulted in the deaths of senior Iranian military and government officials.

The report further notes that a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire came into effect on April 8, while diplomatic efforts continue toward a broader regional agreement aimed at reducing tensions.
