Alberta’s breathtaking mountain destinations are drawing major attention this summer after three of the province’s national parks secured the highest spots in a new Canadian travel ranking released alongside the launch of the Canada Strong Pass program.
According to travel company Journeyscape, Jasper National Park, Banff National Park, and Waterton Lakes National Park ranked as the top three national park destinations in Canada for summer 2026.
The rankings were based on several factors, including wildlife diversity, accessibility, social media popularity, visitor feedback, and park size. Banff remains one of the most convenient choices for travelers from Calgary and nearby regions seeking mountain adventures and scenic escapes.
The recognition arrives as Parks Canada prepares to introduce free admission at all national parks, national historic sites, and marine conservation areas under its management. The Canada Strong Pass initiative will run from June 19 to Sept. 7, 2026, encouraging more Canadians and international visitors to explore the country’s iconic natural landscapes.
The program also offers a 25 percent discount on camping and roofed accommodations operated by Parks Canada during the summer period, adding further incentives for outdoor tourism.
However, officials clarified that the free entry program does not cover every service. Charges will still apply for camping reservations, guided tours, hot springs, fishing licenses, parking, permits, firewood, and services operated by third parties.
Visitors will not need admission tickets or entry passes during the promotional period, although Parks Canada staff will continue assisting travelers at visitor centers and entrance gates.
The offer only applies to Parks Canada-managed locations and excludes provincial parks, municipal parks, private attractions, Quebec’s Sépaq parks, and sites operated independently from the federal agency.
