Jordan Bans Muslim Brotherhood Over Alleged Plot to Destabilize Nation

Amman Cites Weapon Stockpiling and Sabotage Plans in Crackdown on Islamist Group

April 23, 2025 – Amman, Jordan — The Jordanian government has officially banned all activities of the Muslim Brotherhood, accusing the Islamist group of plotting to destabilize the kingdom by manufacturing and hoarding weapons.

Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya announced the decision on Wednesday, stating that the organization’s actions pose a direct threat to national security. “It has been decided to ban all activities of the so-called Muslim Brotherhood and to consider any activity carried out by it a violation of the law,” he told the media.

This move follows the recent arrest of 16 individuals, including Brotherhood affiliates, suspected of involvement in a sabotage plot aimed at undermining the stability of the country.

The Muslim Brotherhood, a transnational Islamist movement with historical roots in Jordan, has long been a controversial political force in the region. The ban reflects increasing pressure on Islamist organizations amid heightened security concerns.

Jordan’s decisive action underscores a broader trend across the Middle East, where several countries have clamped down on the Brotherhood’s influence, labeling it a threat to national sovereignty and public order.
