Israel Strikes Syria-Lebanon Border Crossings, Kills Two in Southern Lebanon
Israel conducted air strikes on four border crossings between Syria and Lebanon on Wednesday, claiming the sites were used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons. Earlier attacks in southern Lebanon killed at least two people and injured nearly 20 others.
Violations Despite Ceasefire
The strikes come despite a US-brokered ceasefire that ended more than a year of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in 2024. Israel has repeatedly violated the agreement since it took effect.
Lebanon Condemns Israeli Attacks
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned the strikes, calling them “a policy of systematic aggression by carrying out air strikes on inhabited Lebanese villages, in a dangerous escalation that directly targets civilians.”
He added, “This repeated aggressive behaviour reaffirms Israel’s refusal to abide by its obligations arising from the cessation of hostilities agreement.”
Humanitarian Impact
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 19 people were injured in the air strikes on the southern town of Qanarit. The attacks have heightened tensions in the region and raised concerns over civilian safety along the border.
