DAMASCUS: French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Damascus on Monday, becoming the first Western leader to visit Syria since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024.
Macron was received at Damascus International Airport by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, marking a significant diplomatic milestone as Syria seeks to rebuild international relations following its political transition. The visit is expected to focus on bilateral ties, regional stability, humanitarian cooperation, and support for Syria’s reconstruction efforts.
