ANKARA: Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz has described the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara as a historic event, saying it comes at a pivotal moment for global security and international cooperation.
In a statement on social media, Yilmaz said alliance leaders will assess NATO’s deterrence and defense strategy from a comprehensive perspective while reviewing measures to strengthen defense spending and military preparedness. He emphasized that Türkiye’s leadership, advanced defense capabilities, and commitment to diplomacy would place the country at the center of key discussions.
The July 7–8 summit will bring together NATO heads of state and government to address defense investment targets, continued support for Ukraine, and efforts to expand defense production. The gathering is also expected to examine broader security challenges, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and transatlantic burden-sharing.
