US President Donald Trump said Thursday that millions of barrels of oil continue to move through the Strait of Hormuz, despite ongoing tensions with Iran.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said the strategic waterway remains open and claimed that US forces have control over the area while maintaining a blockade.
He stated that large volumes of oil were passing through the strait every day. Trump also said American forces had cleared the waterway of mines using advanced minesweeping equipment and were closely monitoring vessels in the region.
According to Trump, US forces can detect ships attempting to place mines and take immediate action against them. He claimed that two vessels involved in mine-laying activities had already been removed.
Trump further said that American forces had recently escorted 24 vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and were continuing to provide such escorts.
At the same time, he claimed that Iran was unable to transport goods through the waterway because of the US blockade, asserting that no Iranian ships had successfully passed through.
