Malaysian PM: Gaza Truce Must Ignite Path to Palestinian Sovereignty

The Gaza cease-fire should not be seen as the end of negotiations but as the spark for a long-overdue journey toward an independent Palestinian state, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim asserted in a powerful statement. His call comes at a critical juncture, emphasizing that the temporary calm in Gaza must translate into concrete steps for justice and self-determination for the Palestinian people.

Anwar highlighted the cease-fire as an opportunity for the international community to refocus on a solution rooted in equality and dignity. “A lasting peace is not achieved through silence but through action,” he remarked, urging global powers to seize the moment to address the root causes of the conflict. He reiterated Malaysia’s unwavering support for Palestine, affirming the nation’s commitment to championing the cause on international platforms.

The Prime Minister underscored that while cease-fires halt violence, they do little to resolve the systemic issues that perpetuate the suffering of Palestinians. He emphasized the urgency of establishing a sovereign state, with pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital. According to Anwar, this vision aligns with international law and the long-standing aspirations of the Palestinian people.

He called on world leaders to unite in pressuring for meaningful negotiations, ensuring that the truce is a stepping stone, not a detour. “Peace in Gaza is the key to peace in the region,” Anwar concluded, urging all nations to take bold steps toward a fair and lasting resolution.
