Fourteen Held After Brutal Public Killing of Alleged Couple in Balochistan

Police have arrested 14 suspects after a mob brutally killed a man and woman in public in Balochistan. The attack took place in broad daylight, sparking national outrage and widespread condemnation.
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti confirmed the arrests and stated that an FIR has been registered under murder and terrorism charges.
“We took action immediately. No one can justify such violence,” said Bugti. “The law will punish them.”
He added the victims were not legally married, despite initial reports. However, he stressed that personal matters never justify mob justice.
Eyewitnesses said locals accused the pair of an illicit relationship. Moments later, a crowd gathered and attacked them with sticks and stones.
The attack happened on a busy street. Many watched, recorded videos, and did nothing to stop the violence.
Police responded quickly and began rounding up suspects. Authorities say they are now looking for others involved, including those who filmed or encouraged the attack.
“This is not just a crime — it’s a failure of society,” said a human rights advocate in Quetta.
Rights groups demanded swift justice and tougher laws to prevent similar acts. They also urged the government to launch awareness campaigns.
Furthermore, Bugti has ordered an investigation into security lapses and community behavior that enabled the killing.
Finally, federal officials promised oversight. They stressed the need to rebuild trust in the legal system and end mob rule in Pakistan.
