A Nigerian court released 119 people, including minors, on Tuesday after authorities dropped charges stemming from August protests over economic hardship. The protesters, initially charged with treason and inciting a coup — charges that included a potential death penalty — were arraigned in groups last week. President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of detained minors and dismissed their charges on Monday. Lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the case’s dismissal and called for state governments to provide rehabilitation and compensation. The attorney general expedited the case, initially set for January, and dismissed all charges.
