On Friday, the Palestinian envoy to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, called on the Security Council to take immediate action to halt what he referred to as the ongoing “genocide” in Gaza. During a meeting focused on the Middle East crisis, Mansour stressed that the world must act collectively to end the suffering, declaring, “It is our collective responsibility to bring this hell to an end.”
The plea came in response to the recent attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital and the detention of its director, Hussam Abu Safiya. Mansour urged the Security Council to hold Israel accountable, condemning the unchecked violence and urging an end to Israeli “impunity.” He highlighted the selflessness of Palestinian medical staff who, despite risking their own lives, continue to care for the wounded amidst the chaos, even as their hospitals come under fire.
“Do not abandon them,” Mansour appealed to the international community. “End the genocide. End this aggression, now.”
The violence in Gaza, which has claimed over 45,550 lives, predominantly women and children, since October 7, has sparked global outrage. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice, further intensifying international pressure for accountability.
Mansour’s urgent plea underscores the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need for immediate global intervention.
