Paris Condemns Alleged Russian Cyber Activities

France Protests Alleged Russian Cyber Operations

BRUSSELS: France on Friday summoned the acting chargé d’affaires of the Russian Embassy in Paris to protest what it described as a series of malicious cyber activities allegedly carried out by Russia against French interests.

According to a statement from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Russian diplomat met with the ministry’s director for continental Europe, where French officials delivered a formal protest and expressed their strongest condemnation of the alleged cyber operations.

Paris claimed that the attacks were linked to the 16th Center of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and said the activities had targeted not only France but also several of its European partners.

The French government described the alleged cyber operations as unacceptable and said such actions were inconsistent with the responsibilities of a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

During the meeting, French officials reaffirmed that France, in coordination with its international partners and in line with international law, would continue to strengthen efforts to detect, deter, and respond to cyber threats and other activities viewed as destabilizing.

The Foreign Ministry added that France remains committed to protecting its national security and working closely with allies to counter malicious cyber operations targeting European institutions and infrastructure.
