Seniors Lead Canada’s Climate Concerns

Climate Worries Highest Among Seniors

OTTAWA: Older Canadians are more concerned about climate change than younger generations, according to new Statistics Canada findings from the 2025 Canadian Social Survey.

The survey found that 53% of Canadians were either very or extremely concerned about climate change, while nearly 30% reported experiencing climate-related stress at least once a month. Adults aged 65 and older recorded the highest level of concern at 59%, compared with 51% among those aged 15 to 24.

Women and university graduates also reported higher levels of concern than men and those with lower educational attainment. The survey found that people who were more concerned about climate change were also more likely to adopt environmentally friendly habits, including reducing food waste and lowering energy consumption.

The findings come as 2025 ranks among the hottest years on record, reinforcing growing public awareness of climate-related challenges.
