Trump Says US May Reimburse Oil Firms for Investments in Venezuela
Comments in NBC Interview
President Donald Trump said the United States could support the rebuilding of Venezuela’s oil sector by reimbursing energy companies for their spending. In an interview with NBC on January 5, Trump said oil firms investing in Venezuela’s energy infrastructure could receive financial compensation.
He suggested that US involvement could help restore production capacity in the oil-rich country while limiting financial risk for private companies.
US Position on Venezuela
At the same time, Trump stressed that the United States is not at war with Venezuela. He also said the country should not expect a rapid election following recent developments.
Trump added that Washington remains focused on long-term stability rather than immediate political change.
Rejection of Nobel Prize Claims
The president also dismissed a Washington Post report claiming he refused to support Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado because she won the Nobel Peace Prize, an award Trump has publicly said he wants to receive.
“That has nothing to do with my decision,” Trump said. He added that Machado did not deserve the prize but denied that it influenced US policy toward Venezuela.
