Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have achieved remarkable progress in their bilateral relations, according to the Turkish ambassador to the UAE. In recent years, the two countries have deepened cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, tourism, and defense, signaling a shift toward closer ties after years of tension.
In a recent statement, Turkey’s ambassador to the UAE emphasized that the relationship between the two nations had moved beyond political and economic collaboration. Both countries have demonstrated mutual commitment to strengthening ties, following a period of diplomatic tension that began in 2011 over differences in regional policies. The ambassador pointed out that high-level visits and dialogue have been pivotal in overcoming these challenges, particularly after the rapprochement in 2021.
Economically, the UAE has become one of Turkey’s key partners in the Gulf region. Trade volume between the two nations reached nearly $9 billion in 2023, and the UAE is one of the largest investors in Turkey. Strategic investments from the UAE, particularly in the fields of energy and technology, have been crucial in boosting Turkey’s economy. The ambassador highlighted that the UAE’s commitment to invest in Turkey’s infrastructure and energy sectors further cements this strong partnership.
Moreover, defense cooperation has also been a focal point of collaboration. Both countries have been expanding joint military training programs, counterterrorism efforts, and defense technology partnerships. The ambassador also highlighted the significant role of the tourism industry, noting that the UAE is one of the largest sources of tourists for Turkey, with an increasing number of Emiratis visiting Turkish cities for business and leisure.
With the growing convergence of interests, Türkiye-UAE relations are poised to continue their upward trajectory, creating opportunities for even closer collaboration across various fields in the future.
