UN Warns of Rapid Iranian Uranium Enrichment

US Strikes Target Iranian Nuclear Facilities

UN Nuclear Chief Warns Iran Could Resume Uranium Enrichment Within Months

The head of the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, has cautioned that Iran may be capable of producing enriched uranium within a few months, raising concerns about the effectiveness of recent U.S. airstrikes targeting Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Speaking in an interview with CBS News, Grossi stated that Iran still possesses the technical ability to restart parts of its nuclear programme. “They could have several centrifuge cascades up and running and producing enriched uranium in a matter of months — or possibly sooner,” he said.

Grossi added that it would be inaccurate to assume that all of Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been destroyed. “One cannot say everything has disappeared and nothing remains,” he noted, according to a transcript of the interview set to air on CBS’s Face the Nation.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials maintain that recent military strikes successfully hit critical nuclear facilities in Iran. However, President Donald Trump warned on Friday that he is prepared to authorize further military action if Iran resumes uranium enrichment at dangerous levels.
