ANKARA: The US government has approved the limited re-release of Anthropic’s advanced artificial intelligence model, Mythos 5, allowing a select group of trusted organizations to regain access after restrictions were imposed over national security concerns.
According to reports, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick informed Anthropic that approximately 100 vetted organizations, including government agencies and private-sector operators responsible for critical infrastructure, would once again be permitted to use the cybersecurity-focused AI system.
Anthropic confirmed the decision in a statement, noting that Mythos 5 has been cleared for deployment to organizations tasked with protecting and defending critical infrastructure across the United States.
The AI model is specifically designed to identify cyber vulnerabilities, strengthen digital defenses, and support cybersecurity operations against emerging threats.
Earlier this month, the Commerce Department suspended access to Mythos 5 and Anthropic’s consumer-focused Fable 5 model under export control authorities, citing national security risks associated with advanced AI technologies.
The restrictions were announced shortly after OpenAI revealed plans to gradually roll out its GPT-5.6 models at the request of the federal government. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman later said the phased release differed from the company’s original plans.
Anthropic said discussions with US officials are continuing as it seeks approval to restore broader access to Fable 5. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is reportedly developing a regulatory framework to evaluate advanced AI systems for safety risks while strengthening cybersecurity protections.
