US Lawmaker Moves to Impeach Pete Hegseth Over Iran War Role
Impeachment push intensifies amid rising scrutiny of US military actions
A US lawmaker has initiated impeachment proceedings against Pete Hegseth, citing his alleged involvement in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Ansari announces impeachment plan
US Representative Yassamin Ansari confirmed on Monday that she will introduce Articles of Impeachment against Hegseth. She accused him of supporting what she described as an “illegal war” linked to US-Israeli military operations in Iran.
In a statement shared on the platform X, Ansari criticized Donald Trump for escalating the conflict. She warned that continued military actions could lead to serious violations of international law. Moreover, she claimed that Hegseth played a direct role in enabling these decisions.
Concerns over civilian casualties grow
Meanwhile, criticism has intensified following reports of civilian casualties in Iran. A preliminary US military investigation found that a missile strike on an Iranian elementary school in February killed at least 175 people, most of them children.
In addition, experts have raised concerns about possible attacks on civilian infrastructure. Trump has reportedly threatened to target facilities such as power plants and bridges. Legal analysts argue that such actions could amount to war crimes under international law.
Regional tensions continue to rise
Tensions in the region have increased sharply since the joint US-Israeli offensive began on February 28. According to Iranian authorities, the conflict has resulted in more than 1,340 deaths, including Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military bases. Furthermore, Tehran has restricted shipping movements through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, raising global economic concerns.
