U.S.-Saudi Strategic Joint Planning Committee Convenes at Pentagon

The United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia convened the 9th session of the Strategic Joint Planning Committee (SJPC), a pivotal platform for military collaboration between the two nations, on July 29–30, 2025, at the Pentagon. The U.S. delegation was headed by Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby, while the Saudi side was led by His Excellency Dr. Khalid Biyari, Assistant Minister of Defense.
Under Secretary Colby acknowledged the Kingdom’s leadership, reaffirmed the Department of Defense’s dedication to enhancing defense ties under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth, and urged swift action in implementing the $142 billion worth of Memoranda of Intent, signed by Secretary Hegseth during President Trump’s official visit to Riyadh in May 2025.
Both parties emphasized the value of U.S.-Saudi military collaboration as a strategic asset for regional stability and explored avenues to further strengthen joint efforts.
The two delegations shared perspectives on key national defense goals and ongoing regional security concerns. They reiterated their unwavering support for the enduring defense alliance between the United States and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Under Secretary Colby praised Saudi Arabia’s initiatives to advance its defense capabilities and contribute more significantly to mutual regional goals.
