US Veterans Join Gaza-Bound Flotilla to Oppose War
ISTANBUL – A group of US veterans has joined the Global Sumud Flotilla, urging Washington to end its role in Israel’s war on Gaza.
Veterans’ Message
The organization announced Thursday on X that eight American veterans are part of the mission. “These veterans are defying the same war machine they once served,” the statement said.
The flotilla praised their decision, noting their move from “fighting wars of the empire to fighting for the oppressed.”
Call for Justice
The statement highlighted growing opposition across the US. Citizens are demanding an arms embargo, condemning government complicity, and pushing for justice. “These veterans remind us that solidarity means action and that true service is standing with the people of Palestine,” it added.
According to the group, the veterans carried a direct message as they sailed: “End genocide, end complicity, and free Palestine.”
Growing International Convoy
Since Sept. 13, ships from Tunisian and Greek ports have been leaving to join the solidarity fleet. The vessels plan to gather near Malta before continuing together toward Gaza, the International Committee to Break the Israeli Siege of Gaza confirmed.
Humanitarian Mission
Organizers said this is the largest convoy yet. Its main goal is to challenge the blockade and deliver aid to Palestinians in Gaza, where famine and disease are spreading under months of border closures.
Ongoing Crisis
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed more than 65,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Constant bombardment and the blockade have made Gaza uninhabitable, pushing its people into starvation and worsening health conditions.
