US Approves $930 Million Rocket System Sale to Sweden

US Approves Potential Rocket System Sale to Sweden

WASHINGTON

The US State Department announced Tuesday that it approved a possible military sale of advanced rocket systems to Sweden.

According to the department, the proposed deal includes the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System and related military equipment. The estimated value of the package stands at about $930 million.

Boost to Sweden’s Defense Capability

Officials said the planned sale would strengthen Sweden’s ability to address current and future security threats. In addition, the system would improve coordination between Swedish forces and allied militaries, including those of the United States.

The State Department also noted that the rocket systems would expand Sweden’s artillery power and improve its mid-range strike capability.

Lockheed Martin Named as Main Contractor

The department confirmed that Lockheed Martin will serve as the principal contractor for the project. The company operates from the US state of Texas and produces several advanced defense systems for the American military and its allies.

If finalized, the deal will further strengthen defense cooperation between Washington and Stockholm.
