ISTANBUL: A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck Mojiang County in Pu’er City, southwestern China’s Yunnan Province, on Tuesday, prompting emergency measures but causing no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake originated at a depth of 6 kilometers (3.8 miles). The tremor was felt across parts of the region, prompting authorities to closely monitor the situation.
Officials said there were no immediate reports of injuries or major infrastructure damage following the quake, while the local power grid continued operating without disruption.
As a precaution, railway authorities temporarily suspended several passenger train services in the affected area, resulting in delays along the China-Laos Railway.
In response to the earthquake, Yunnan’s provincial earthquake relief headquarters activated a Level-IV emergency response, enabling disaster management teams to assess the impact and coordinate any necessary relief operations.
Authorities continue to monitor aftershocks while emergency personnel remain on standby as safety inspections are carried out across the region.
