Dense fog has disrupted life across Punjab, prompting the closure of key motorway sections, including M2, M11, and M5. Authorities have prioritized traveler safety, citing reduced visibility as the primary concern. The affected routes stretch from Lahore to Hiran Minar on M2, Sialkot to Lahore on M11, and Rahim Yar Khan to Rohri on M5.
Motorway police spokesperson Saeed Imran Ahmed emphasized that poor visibility heightens the risk of accidents, particularly when drivers neglect lane discipline. Travelers are advised to delay non-essential trips and prioritize journeys during daylight hours, particularly between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., when visibility improves.
Drivers are also urged to utilize fog lights and avoid speeding to minimize the chances of collisions. The closures will remain in effect until the fog lifts and visibility conditions improve.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast persistent fog in Punjab and upper Sindh, with cold and dry weather prevailing elsewhere. Northwestern Balochistan may see light rain and snow due to a shallow westerly system, while temperatures in northern areas like Leh and Skardu continue to plummet, hitting lows of -12°C.
Officials continue to monitor the foggy conditions and emphasize the importance of strict adherence to traffic rules. As winter casts its foggy spell, road safety remains paramount for all travelers.
