Netanyahu Presses for Further Action Against Iran Despite US Hesitation

Netanyahu has warned for more than three decades that Iran poses a serious threat to Israel and global security. As Netanyahu prepares to visit Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Sunday, Israeli officials and their allies in the United States have renewed calls for tougher measures against Iran. This time, they argue that Tehran’s missile capabilities require urgent attention.
Supporters of a harder stance say Iran’s growing missile arsenal presents a long-term security risk to Israel. As a result, they continue to urge Washington to take a more active military role.
Growing Tension With Trump’s Policy Goals
Analysts note that further confrontation with Iran would directly challenge Trump’s stated approach to foreign policy. The US president has emphasized reducing military interventions while strengthening economic ties and encouraging diplomatic cooperation between Israel and Arab states.
At the same time, Trump faces domestic pressure. While parts of his political base oppose deeper involvement in Iran, pro-Israel donors and foreign policy hawks continue to advocate for stronger US action.
Experts Warn of Strategic Divide
Sina Toossi, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, said Netanyahu’s strategy reflects a broader push for military dominance rather than regional stability.
He explained that Netanyahu’s goal appears to involve sustained US pressure on Iran aimed at weakening the Iranian state. According to Toossi, this approach clashes with Washington’s interest in avoiding prolonged conflicts and promoting stability without direct American military involvement.
As Netanyahu renews his push, analysts warn that the growing divide between Israeli objectives and US strategic priorities could create friction in the bilateral relationship.
