Pro-Government Giants Brigades Targeted in Aden Attack

Yemen Authorities Vow Action After Deadly Convoy Bombing

Five Killed in Bombing of Yemeni Military Convoy

A bombing targeting a convoy of Yemen’s pro-government Giants Brigades killed five people and wounded three others on Wednesday, authorities reported. The convoy carried Hamdi Shukri, a senior commander aligned with the Saudi-backed government.

Attack Condemned as Treacherous

The Presidential Leadership Council, Yemen’s Saudi-backed authority, described the attack as a “desperate attempt” to disrupt progress in stabilizing the country. The council said authorities would take “practical and decisive measures” to pursue the attackers and dismantle their support networks.

“The Yemeni government calls on all national forces and political groups to unite against chaos, saboteurs, and terrorism, treating this crime as affecting everyone,” the council said. It added that political disagreements should not prevent action when the state itself is targeted.

Details of the Attack

A security source told AFP that a car bomb planted along the roadside in the Ja’awla area north of Aden detonated as Shukri’s convoy passed. Shukri survived but sustained shrapnel injuries to his leg.

The United States embassy in Yemen condemned the bombing as an “unprovoked attack against a Yemeni government-affiliated military convoy.” The council did not identify the perpetrators.
