European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has stated that the coming weeks will be crucial for advancing Ukraine’s path toward European Union membership, emphasizing the need for decisive progress in the accession process.
In a post on social media platform X, she said she held discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding Ukraine’s EU integration. She reiterated the European Union’s continued strong support for Ukraine as Russia intensifies its ongoing war.
Von der Leyen highlighted that strengthening air defense systems, along with drone and counter-drone capabilities, remains among Europe’s most urgent defense priorities. She also confirmed that Ukraine will be fully integrated into these defense initiatives.
Additionally, she referred to a Ukraine Support Loan, which she said would play a key role in supporting Kyiv’s military requirements. The funding package is expected to provide €28.3 billion this year to assist Ukraine’s defense needs.
