Israeli Airstrikes in Lebanon Kill Three as Southern Raids Continue
Airstrikes Hit Multiple Areas Across Southern Lebanon
Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes across Lebanon beginning at dawn on Saturday, killing three people, according to the state-run National News Agency (Lebanon).
Residential Areas and Infrastructure Targeted
In the town of Mefdoun in the southern Nabatieh governorate, Israeli strikes destroyed a residential building. Additional attacks also leveled several homes on Martyr Sabra Street and in the Maqam neighborhood.
In another strike, the town of Jebchit was hit when aircraft targeted a private electricity generator facility, which was destroyed and set on fire.
Ongoing Military Operations Despite Ceasefire
Israel has continued expanded military operations in southern Lebanon since a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2, even though a ceasefire agreement came into effect in November 2024.
Diplomatic Efforts Continue Amid Escalation
Despite the ongoing violence, diplomatic activity is also underway. A US State Department official told Anadolu Agency that the United States will host direct talks between Israel and Lebanon next week as part of ceasefire discussions.
These talks follow an announcement by US President Donald Trump regarding a two-week ceasefire with Iran, brokered through Pakistani mediation.
A Lebanese official confirmed the upcoming meeting but clarified that it will remain “preparatory” rather than formal negotiations.
