Merz Warns Iran Over Global Energy Disruption Crisis

Germany Presses Iran Over Strait of Hormuz Crisis Amid Rising Global Alarm

Germany has issued a strong warning to Iran, urging immediate restoration of unrestricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz amid growing fears over global energy security.

Speaking in Berlin, Friedrich Merz said Tehran must stop “holding the region and the entire world hostage” through its actions in the strategically vital waterway.

He stressed that Iran’s nuclear program must be verifiably dismantled and warned against any further attacks on Israel or regional partners, highlighting escalating geopolitical risks across the Middle East.

Merz reaffirmed Germany’s position during a joint press briefing with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev, emphasizing that Berlin and Washington share common goals following his recent conversation with Donald Trump.

Both leaders reportedly agreed on the need for a negotiated diplomatic solution to the escalating Iran crisis.

German officials have repeatedly expressed concern that the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran is directly affecting European energy supplies and economic stability.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas flows under normal conditions, has seen significant disruptions due to rising military tensions and retaliatory actions in the region.

Analysts warn that continued instability in the area could trigger broader global energy shocks, particularly in Europe, where dependence on imported fuel remains high.

Germany has urged all parties to return to diplomatic negotiations to prevent further escalation and protect global maritime trade routes from prolonged disruption.
