USS Mason Crew Conducts Live-Fire Weapons Training in U.S. 5th Fleet

Sailors aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Mason participated in a live-fire weapons exercise using M18 service pistols while operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility on July 17, 2026.

The training exercise was designed to strengthen individual marksmanship, reinforce weapons handling procedures, and ensure personnel remain proficient in close-range defensive operations. Live-fire drills form a vital part of the Navy’s readiness program, allowing sailors to maintain the skills required for real-world maritime security and combat missions.

By regularly conducting realistic weapons training at sea, USS Mason continues to enhance crew preparedness, operational effectiveness, and mission readiness while supporting security and stability across the strategically important U.S. 5th Fleet region.
