China Cambodia deepen defense security cooperation

Senior diplomatic and defense officials from China and Cambodia have held their first strategic dialogue under a newly established mechanism, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation across security, law enforcement and economic development.

The meeting took place in Phnom Penh and was co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun, alongside Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Defense Minister Tea Seiha, according to state media reports.

Discussions covered political relations, defense coordination, and regional and global security developments. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in law enforcement and defense, with a particular focus on combating online gambling networks, telecom fraud, and strengthening cybersecurity systems.

The two countries also emphasized resolving regional disputes through dialogue and rejected unilateral pressure and power politics, while calling for a more balanced international order and expanded free trade.

China expressed its willingness to further develop strategic cooperation with Cambodia, including initiatives aimed at building an Asian security framework based on shared stability. Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China policy.

Chinese officials also met Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, who reiterated Phnom Penh’s support for closer ties with Beijing and welcomed expanded cooperation in areas such as clean energy and infrastructure investment. He also pledged stronger domestic enforcement against online fraud and illegal gambling operations.
