FORT COVINGTON, NY – April 17, 2025 | 03:00 PM EDT
In a swift response to a public tip, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Swanton Sector apprehended Hassan Mohamed, a 43-year-old Somali national, near Fort Covington, New York. Authorities later confirmed Mohamed had a prior conviction for armed bank robbery in the United States.
The arrest followed a report from a vigilant resident, highlighting the crucial role the community plays in maintaining border security. Agents quickly located and detained Mohamed, who had entered the country illegally.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered his criminal record, which included a serious federal conviction for an armed robbery offense. Due to his past and current immigration status, Mohamed now faces federal charges and potential removal proceedings.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials commended both the alert citizen and the responding agents for their decisive action. The incident underscores the ongoing efforts of the Swanton Sector to intercept criminal non-citizens attempting to cross into the U.S. unlawfully.
CBP reiterated its commitment to protecting the homeland by ensuring that individuals with dangerous criminal histories are removed from the country and held accountable under the law.
