Canadian Citizen Killed in Iran During Protests

Canadian Citizen Killed in Iran Amid Escalating Protests

OTTAWA – A Canadian citizen has died in Iran “at the hands of the Iranian authorities,” Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand confirmed, as protests against the Iranian regime intensify alongside Tehran’s crackdown.

“I have just learned that a Canadian citizen has died in Iran at the hands of the Iranian authorities. Our consular officials are in contact with the family in Canada, and my deepest condolences go to them at this time,” Anand wrote on social media.

A spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada (GAC) also confirmed the death, stating, “We express our condolences to the family and loved ones during this difficult time.” Due to privacy concerns, GAC did not provide further details about the incident.

Anand criticized the Iranian regime, saying that peaceful protests have “led the regime to flagrantly disregard human life.” She called for an immediate end to the violence, emphasizing that Canada condemns the attacks on civilians.
