Donald Trump’s special envoy is expected to meet Ukraine’s chief negotiator in Florida this week as diplomatic efforts surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict regain attention, according to a White House official.
The planned discussions between Steve Witkoff and Rustem Umerov come during a slowdown in direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Officials have not yet disclosed further details regarding the agenda or timing of the meeting.
In recent months, international focus on the Russia-Ukraine conflict has diminished as attention shifted toward escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Meanwhile, Moscow on Wednesday urged foreign governments to evacuate diplomats and personnel from Kyiv over concerns about possible retaliatory attacks linked to Russia’s upcoming Victory Day events on May 9.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Russia received official notices requesting that they treat the Defense Ministry’s warnings with maximum seriousness.
The communication advised governments and organizations to arrange the timely evacuation of diplomatic staff, other personnel, and citizens from the Ukrainian capital if necessary.
