North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un Visits China Through Newly Opened Border Bridge
ISLAMABAD — October 24, 2026
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in the Chinese border city of Dandong on Saturday, accompanied by Beijing’s senior political adviser, according to Chinese state media.
Kim reportedly entered Dandong through the newly opened New Yalu River Bridge, which links North Korea with China.
China’s top political adviser, Wang Huning, accompanied Kim during his visit to the city in Liaoning province in northeastern China, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
Wang, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Politburo Standing Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s warm greetings and best wishes to the North Korean leader.
Chinese authorities did not provide further information about the purpose of Kim’s visit or any meetings held with officials.
The visit took place one day before the anniversary of China’s entry into the Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953.
According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, Kim was expected to return to North Korea following his visit on Saturday.
China and North Korea opened the three-kilometre New Yalu River Bridge earlier this month after years of delays. The project is intended to help revive bilateral trade following strained relations and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kim last visited China in September 2025, when he attended the 80th Victory Day commemorations in Beijing and held a summit with President Xi.
