Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Athens late Thursday for a large march toward the Israeli embassy, expressing solidarity with Palestinians and support for resistance efforts in Gaza amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The rally drew pro-Palestinian activists from left-wing political parties, progressive organizations, and advocacy groups, many of whom carried Palestinian flags and chanted slogans demanding justice and international accountability.
Participants strongly criticized Israel’s restrictions on humanitarian aid entering Gaza Strip, accusing the international community of failing to take meaningful action to end the suffering of civilians.
One demonstrator, Yannis Theodorakis, argued that many European governments have limited their response to verbal condemnations while avoiding stronger diplomatic pressure. He called on countries worldwide to unite in efforts aimed at stopping the violence and addressing the worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
Another protester, Makis Lapiez, compared the Palestinian struggle to historic resistance movements, saying Palestinians were fighting to reclaim land they believe was taken from them. He drew parallels with Greece’s own fight for freedom during World War II, emphasizing the importance of resisting occupation and defending national identity.
The demonstration reflects growing public anger across Europe over the ongoing conflict and humanitarian situation in Gaza, where international rights groups and activists continue to call for greater humanitarian access and diplomatic intervention.
