Defense Officials Outline $1 Trillion Budget to Strengthen US Military

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee today, presenting President Donald Trump’s proposed $1 trillion defense budget for fiscal year 2026.
The officials emphasized that the record-breaking defense proposal aims to enhance national security through military strength and technological superiority.
“This budget marks a turning point, prioritizing military readiness and ending years of underinvestment,” said Hegseth. “We are putting our warfighters first.”
General Caine described the proposal as a commitment to efficiency, accountability, and combat readiness. He noted that the investment would provide advanced capabilities, next-generation technologies, and improved force survivability.
Key Budget Highlights:

$25 billion for the Golden Dome missile defense shield

$62 billion to modernize and maintain nuclear forces

$3.5 billion for the F-47 sixth-generation fighter jet

$47 billion toward naval shipbuilding programs
Hegseth stressed the importance of revitalizing the defense industrial base and fast-tracking the deployment of cutting-edge technologies. “We’re transforming our acquisition system to deliver the best weapons to our troops faster,” he said.
Caine echoed this, stating the budget would “reinvigorate America’s defense industry” and promote global integration across allied forces. “This is about being connected before crises arise,” he said.
Support for Service Members
The proposed budget also allocates significant funding to improve the quality of life for military personnel. Initiatives include:
