Iran has confirmed holding diplomatic meetings related to a prominent cleric reportedly detained in Saudi Arabia, although Riyadh has not officially acknowledged any arrest.
Iranian officials stated that discussions with Saudi counterparts are ongoing, aiming to resolve the situation through diplomatic channels. The identity of the cleric and the reasons behind the alleged detention remain undisclosed.
“We are following up through official diplomatic routes,” said an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson, emphasizing Tehran’s commitment to protecting its citizens and maintaining regional dialogue.
The development comes amid improving, yet still delicate, ties between the two regional powers, which resumed diplomatic relations in 2023 after years of tension.
