US to Cancel Chinese Student Visas More Aggressively, Says Senator Rubio
WASHINGTON —
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has announced plans to push for the aggressive cancellation of student visas held by Chinese nationals, citing national security concerns.
Rubio claimed that some Chinese students could be linked to activities that threaten U.S. intellectual property and security, although he did not present specific evidence. His statement comes amid rising tensions between the United States and China over technology, education, and geopolitical influence.
“It’s time we take a tougher stance. We must aggressively cancel visas for individuals connected to the Chinese Communist Party or its influence operations,” Rubio said during a press briefing.
Nearly 280,000 Chinese students enrolled in American universities during the last academic year, making them the largest group of international students in the U.S. The proposal has sparked debate over its potential impact on educational exchange and bilateral relations.
