Iran, US Face Urgent Deadline for Nuclear Deal

UN Chief Warns of Limited Time as Iran, US Enter Key Talks

As Iran and the United States prepare for the second round of nuclear negotiations in Rome this weekend, the UN’s nuclear watchdog chief, Rafael Grossi, warned that time is running out to secure a deal. Grossi emphasized the urgency of the situation, acknowledging that both countries are at a critical juncture in the discussions.

The delegations from Iran and the US are set to meet on Saturday for a fresh round of talks, mediated by Oman. This comes just a week after the highest-level talks between the two countries since the US withdrew from the historic nuclear deal in 2018 under President Donald Trump.

During a visit to Tehran, Grossi highlighted the importance of the upcoming negotiations, stressing that time is limited and the process is complex. “We are working hard and we want to succeed,” Grossi said at a joint news conference with Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency. The talks are expected to focus on reviving the nuclear deal, which remains a key international issue.

Earlier this week, Grossi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who led the first round of discussions with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. With tensions running high, both sides are hoping to find common ground to prevent further escalation.
